Registration / Membership
To be able to fully benefit from all the services, facilities and resources offered by the library, you need to be a registered client. To access our electronic resources you will be prompted for your student/personnel number and a PIN.
Important: Access to library services are valid until graduation day.
 
UP First year students After registration at the university has been finalised, you will automatically be registered at the Library after 24 hours.

Prospective Students 

A fee of R700,00 is payable by all prospective post-graduate students. This entitles the student to use all products, services, e-access and facilities of the UP Library Services.

Registration will take place on presentation of a letter of introduction from the promotor of the UP Dept. The registration is valid for 3 months from date of payment.

This fee is inclusive payment for the registration card. See borrowing privileges
 

UP Alumni

As a registered member of the TuksAlumni Alma Mater Fund library access is one of the benefits. See borrowing privileges and servivces

To register as a library member present your Alumni card and complete the registration form.
 

Clients from other SA Higher Education
Institutions

Masters, PhD students and lecturers from other South African Higher Education Institutions can register with the library, provided that they have a letter of recommendation from their home institution library.
 
CHELSA

To apply for membership, ensure that the letter of recommendation from your library was mailed to marietjie.vdw@up.ac.za. On arrival please complete the CHELSA registration form.

A fee of R 50,00 is payable at the Client Service Centre for an admission card to the library. It will only be ready for pickup after 24 hours.

Other External users:

Register according to agreement. Activate membership at the Circulation Desk.

International students:
Foreign passport holders
International students with no link to a UP Dept - must present a passport and a current student card or proof of registration from their Institution.
Fee - R100.00 p/month
 
International students:
SA Nationals
SA Nationals who study at an International Institution with no link to a UP Dept - must present an ID and a current student card or proof of registration from their Institution.
Fee - R250.00 p/month
 
Day visitors People with no assosiation with a UP Dept, can use the library services. Day visitor fee is R50 per day, payable in the library. ID must be available and a temporary card, valid for the day, will be issued.
