Policy regarding the Less Used Journal Collection in the library

Journals published prior to 1981 for disciplines such as the Social Sciences, Humanities, Theology, Economics, Management Sciences, Built Environment & Engineering, and selected titles and volumes from the Music Collection are stored in the cellar of Old Merensky, adjacent to the main Merensky Library.

Journals older than 1990 from Natural & Agricultural Sciences are housed at the Groenkloof Education Library. View Procedure for information on how to request journals from these collections.

Several factors, such as less demand for the old material, staff shortages and insufficient fresh air, have led to a decision to manage the Less Used Collection as a closed collection from January 2004.

Clients can use this collection between 8:00 - 12:30 Monday to Friday.

Special arrangements can be made to accommodate researchers who need to spend more time working in this section. Appointments can be made at the Information Desk on Level 3 Tel.: +27 12 420 2235 or with Martha Molefe Tel.: +27 12 420 3161.
