Amelia Breytenbach
Information & Metadata Specialist

Amelia Breytenbach is an information and metadata
specialist at the University of Pretoria Department of
Library Services, specializing in metadata and e-books.
She holds a BBibl degree (1980) from the University of
Pretoria. Her working experience covers a period of 27
years and includes: cataloguing and classification of
information resources with special interest in
e-information resources, metadata applications and the
building of information portals and folksonomies. Key
responsibilities in her current position regarding
metadata are: metadata specialist for UPSpace (the
institutional repository of the University of
Pretoria), implementing the Dublin Core metadata
tagging strategy in UPSpace, quality control of the
metadata in UPSpace, internal and external metadata
training, advice on all issues and decisions regarding
metadata in UPSpace, monitoring and communicating new
metadata developments and applications and the
development, digitization and metadata tagging of
historical information resources for establishing a
National Veterinary Repository for the Faculty of
Veterinary Science. She is author and co-author of
several papers presented at various conferences,
workshops and training sessions and completed two online
workshops on metadata and taxonomies.

Hettie
Groenewald
Information Specialist: Engineering, Built
Environment & Information Technology

Holding a BA (HED) and B Bibl (Hons) degree from the
University of Pretoria, Hettie has been employed as
Information Specialist in the Library for the Built
Environment and some Engineering Departments.
The implementation of the digital institutional
repository created an opportunity for her to become
involved in the archiving of valuable research material
and research outputs, such as the digitization of frail
research material in collaboration with the Department
of Architecture.
Since 2002, various presentations at conferences have
been made in this regard.

Kabelo Nzima
Information Specialist: Health Sciences

Kabelo Nzima is an
Information Specialist at the Basic Medical Sciences
Library. She got her degree in Information Science at
UP. Her job includes doing literature searches, creating
and updating ClickUP pages and being responsible for
information
literacy training of undergraduate and postgraduate
students. She
is also an IT coordinator for her faculty library and is
a reviewer for certain collections on UPSpace. In the
past two years she moved from being a part time junior
information assistant (Shelver) in the Study Collection
and working at the Circulation Desk to being an
Information Specialist. Her qualifications, combined
with an interest and passion in Marketing and
Communication has created the opportunity to act as a
presenter in promoting UPSpace services.

Ina Smith
Digital Repository Manager & E-Application Specialist

Ina Smith is currently an E-Application Specialist and
manager of the open access digital research repository
of the University of Pretoria (UPSpace). She holds a
Master's Degree in Computer-Integrated Education, as
well as an Honors Degree in Library and Information
Science. She started her career as a secondary school
teacher in 1992. From 1993 - 2001 she was a cataloguer
at the former Pretoria Onderwyskollege, and from 2002 -
2004 an information specialist at the library of the
University of Pretoria. Her main areas of interest
include the following: Information and Knowledge
Management, Institutional Repositories, Archiving and
Preservation, Federated Search Engines and Link
Resolvers, E-learning (online learning), and
Instructional Design. She acted as consultant for UNISA
and CSIR during the implementation of their
institutional repositories, and frequently delivers
papers at conferences.

Christelle Steyn
Library Web Manager

Christelle Steyn
is currently the Library Web Manager at the University
of Pretoria. She holds a BA: Information Science
Degree. Christelle started her career as Library
Information Assistant in 1998. From 2000 - 2007 she was
a Health Information Specialist at the Health Sciences
Library of the University of Pretoria. She is co-author
of two articles published in 2007 and she has presented
papers / posters / workshops, at various conferences.

Wynand van der Walt
Product Coordinator:
Library Products
Wynand van der Walt’s career spans nearly two decades
during which he has worked at public, commercial,
provincial library services and an academic library.
He is
currently employed as a product manager at Sabinet and
CONTENTdm® is one of the products within his portfolio.
Wynand has a keen interest in institutional repository
developments and was the project leader of the ETD
project at the University of the Western Cape.

Dr Martie van Deventer
has started her career in 1979 as a teacher but soon
progressed to library and information science. She was
appointed as subject librarian for education at the
University of Johannesburg (then RAU) during 1986
transferring to the Chamber of Mines Research
Organisation (COMRO) in August 1989. The Research
Organisation merged with the Council for Scientific and
Industrial Research (CSIR) in 1994 and she has been with
the CSIR ever since.
Her current position is that of Portfolio Manager:
virtual research environment enablement, library and
special projects. These include the responsibility to
develop and maintain an institutional repository as well
as to establish sound digital curation practices at
organisational level.
