Situated only 1,5 km North of the main entrance of the Onderstepoort campus, along the M35, is the Onderstepoort Primary School. The school has approximately 150 pupils.

On 22 November 2007 four staff members of the Veterinary Science Librarian paid a visit to this school. Several donations, such as story books, colouring books, crayons, modelling clay, pencils and other stationery, as well as toothbrushes, dental floss and toothpaste were distributed to the children.

This donation was received from the following donors in Vermont, USA:

  • Russell Memorial Library, Monkton;
  • Lawrence Memorial Library, Bristol;
  • Margaret Pierce Teitelbaum (dental supplies);
  • Marv Greenberg, D.V.M.;
  • Laura Lyndes, D.V.M. and
  • Julie Moenter, D.V.M. (organiser)

  • Tertia Coetsee, Marguerite Nel, Maite Motshoeneng,
    Constance Lekhuleng and Johannes Moropotli

    Posters were made to accompany the dental donation, explaining the correct use of each item. The Veterinary Science Library also donated duplicate journals such as Animal Talk and Farmer’s Weekly to use in the classes.

    Not only did the children and their teachers enjoy the visit, but it was such an enriching experience for the librarians, they decided to surprise the children the following week with ice cream and sweets!
