This can now be done from the comfort of your own office, clinic or home. No longer any need to rush to the library and fill in lots of forms. No need to be bound by library hours or the availability of library personnel.

This service is available to all staff and students of the University of Pretoria on condition that you are also registered as an Interlibrary Loan User. This can be done by sending your personal information eg. Title, Surname, Telephone number, e-mail address and personnel number to alourens@op.up.ac.za. I shall then register you on the Sabinet network and the next day you will receive an e-mail with your User-id and Password.

Follow these easy steps to submit your requests for articles or books.

  • Open up Netscape or Internet Explorer and type http://www.sabinet.co.za in URL window (If a Firewall password is needed on campus use aistud and again aistud
  • Click on Academic and Library Division
  • Click on IP Authorisation if on UP campus
  • From outside the campus supply the following

  •     - User Id: 998540w0     - Password : 9985
  • Click on GO
  • Choose SACat ( see blue part of menu ).
  • Start searching for journal or book title
  • Click on the correct title (in blue)
  •     The Bibliographic information and holdings will appear on a new screen. Please do not request documents available at UP(VET). Our stock is indicated with code : 2843 (See left column of table at bottom of screen)
  • Click on Request in the right hand corner

  •     Supply your User Id 2843-……………………
            and Password 2843+…………………... (supplied to you by alourens@op.up.ac.zaor X8008 after you have sent your personal information).
  • Scroll down and supply bibliographic information.
        For article requests please supply publ. year, author, title, volume, pages, month, etc.
  • Click on Submit Request.
  • Number of request will appear at top of page.
  • Click on New Search (top menu) to continue with next request

There you are - your first request has been sent . Not too difficult I think.
